A splendid and beautifully toned drachm from Thasos

ISLANDS OFF THRACE, Thasos. Circa 411-340 BC. Drachm (Silver, 14 mm, 3.82 g, 11 h). Head of Dionysos to left, wearing wreath of ivy and fruit. Rev. ΘAΣ-I-ΩN Herakles, wearing lion skin, kneeling right and shooting his bow; before, kantharos; all within linear frame within circular incuse. BMC 48. Le Rider, Thasiennes -. McClean 4210. Rare with circular incuse. A splendid coin, beautifully toned and of wonderful Classical style. Light scrapes on the reverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
